Gavin began skating at 4 years old in Newmarket, before moving to Mariposa at 10. After joining Mariposa he competed in both pairs and singles for several years. 
Gavin first began coaching at 16 and has coached at the Canskate and Star Skate levels at Mariposa, the Barrie Skating Club and the Lefroy Skating Club. He has also coached off-ice harness and off-ice jump classes at Mariposa.
