About the Program
Starskate is Skate Canada’s Figure Skating program designed to introduce skaters to a series of evaluation and performance opportunities as they progress through 10 Star levels to their Gold tests. There are four disciplines in Starskate which are designed to help develop a well rounded skater.
Freeskate– Jumps, spins and performance programs
Dance– Inspired by ballroom dancing, this discipline incorporates musicality, performances and athletisim to all your favourite rhythms. There are a series of dances and dance elements per Star level for skaters to have evaluated and if they pursue it, compete.
Skills– Skating Skills are a combination of fundamental skating movements which include turns, edges, x-overs, field moves and footwork. As you progress through the evaluation system, the skills become more advanced developing solid foundational skating for Singles, Pairs, Ice Dance and Singles.
Artistic- Artistic tests are designed to incorporate moves learned in the skills test into an artistic program for evaluation and tests. This is a great way for skaters to explore movement and creativity on ice.
